Wefrac 2024

For the past 8 editions, the Frac Weekend has been the national highlight of the network of regional contemporary art funds, a weekend during which the twenty-two Fracs offer a special programme to the public. The Fracs organise more than 500 exhibitions a year throughout France, and this year's Wefrac 2024 will focus in particular on an operation run by each Frac in its own region.

This year, the Abattoirs are joining forces with the Musée Calbet in Grisolles (Tarn-et-Garonne) as part of the Les petites mains exhibition to offer a family workshop, ‘Dentelles de papier’, with artist Yvonne Calsou, on Saturday 16 November at 2.30pm (duration 2 hours).

Les petites mains
A look at needlework and threadwork in the museum's collections
In days gone by, our countryside was home to a whole range of domestic crafts based around textiles. The local production of wool, hemp or linen was prepared, spun and woven on farms or in homes. For centuries, needlework helped to educate girls, whether at home or at school. These domestic activities, which were necessary for the household, were also trades in their own right, most often for women. These ‘little hands’, who were not uncommon in the villages, are the focus of the eponymous exhibition at the Musée Calbet. Alongside the ethnographic textile collections, works by artists invited or chosen from the Abattoirs collections provide a fresh look at these heritage objects, through a play of formal or thematic similarities.
