Join us for ‘Petites histoires de grandes artistes’, animated videos presented by director Sophie Caron. Then extend your discovery of women artists and their practices with a workshop prepared by a mediator from Les Abattoirs.
‘Petites histoires de grandes artistes’ is an original project of fun and educational animated videos, aimed at children aged 7 and over as well as older children.
The aim of each episode? In just a few minutes, to explore the life and work of a woman artist from the 19th or 20th century. Each episode tells the story of the originality of the artist's approach, her importance within an artistic movement, a number of key biographical events, and the difficulties the artist may have encountered in practising her art.
Once a month, you can discover a theme or period in the history of art, and then create your own work in a hands-on workshop! On Saturday 30 November, discover the portrait and self-portrait through the work of painters Suzanne Valadon, Luce Turnier, Frida Kalho and Harriet Backer.
Sophie Caron has been writing, producing and editing programmes for young people for many years. These include interactive programmes for Random Housse Kids in New York, for Montparnasse Multimedia about the Musée d'Orsay and the Louvre, and books for Nathan jeunesse. Since 2020, she has been writing and directing the series Petites Histoires de Grandes Artistes for AWARE.
The workshop is presented in partnership with AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research & Exhibitions, an association that works to give visibility to women artists from the 18th century to the present day, regardless of medium or country. For further information: https://awarewomenartists.com/
