Festival of the Imaginary

‘Le Musée imaginaire d'Oli’ is first and foremost an exhibition designed to be lively and open to all, punctuated by events, concerts, workshops, performances, conferences and open stages. Highlighting the slam scene was an obvious choice, with a proposal from slam artist Sebseb.

Slam is an open stage model created by Marc Smith in Chicago in the 1980s. No particular style of writing is required, and the space welcomes rappers, poets, storytellers, singers, improvisers, stand-up singers and more. There's no specific form of writing, just free speech. The only rules are: 3 minutes maximum, a cappella, a text of your own creation, no costumes, scenery or props. The words are naked!

A jam is with notes, a slam is with words! As kids, Oli and his brother frequented Toulouse's slam scenes. So they've got a rightful place in Oli's ‘Musée imaginaire’!

Sebseb and Contre-courant Production are part of the Ligue Slam de France network. This federation organises the Coupe de la Ligue Slam de France, which will take place in 2025, on 28 June at the Grand Opéra in Tours. The 12 teams from all over France will have met beforehand to perform their texts in a friendly fratricidal joust. On Sunday 20 April, the Salle Picasso at Les Abattoirs will welcome the poetry of teams from Nantes, Bordeaux and Tours... And a few local surprises, of course!

It's a show packed with emotion, and with the excitement of the board game suggested by the meeting of these travelling poets. Who will come out on top? Poetry, for sure.

Who is Sebseb?

Sebseb started out as a self-taught musician, with the group ‘Irie Member’, which made a big splash on the French reggae-dancehall scene. After a career that culminated in the release of their album and a tour of Chile and France, with concerts at the Élysée Montmartre and many other venues, Sebseb set off in search of new horizons. Motivated by his colleagues at 129H and Shakyamuni, he went on to sharpen his pen on the Parisian slam scene. Quickly recognised as an essential pillar of the milieu, he was published by Universlam, and took part in concerts in Mali, Benin and France.

On his return to Toulouse, the city of his origins, his music was quickly noticed in the region. His career took a new turn. His shows and his musicians can be found at all the biggest slam festivals in France: Grand Micro de Bois, Nuits Du Slam, Rencontres Slam de Bretagne, Coupe de la Ligue Slam de France, Slam So Poit, as well as in Montreal, Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Aubagne, Nantes, Saint-Brieuc, Pau, Agen, Perpignan and Montpellier.
