Niki de Saint Phalle: Art Running Free

Inaugural lecture of the Cycle "Niki de Saint Phalle: Art Running Free" by Lucia Pesapane

The opening lecture of the cycle "Niki de Saint Phalle: Art Running Free", given by one of the two curators of the exhibition "Niki de Saint Phalle. The 1980s and 1990s: Art Running Free," will discuss the choice of works, the exhibition itinerary, and the way the exhibition was hung. The decision to show Niki de Saint Phalle's late work, which is perhaps less well known, has made it possible to reveal an exemplary freedom, freedom and commitment that Lucia Pesapane will illustrate through the works on display.

After her studies at the University of Milan and the Magasin de Grenoble, Lucia Pesapane worked at the Institut d'art contemporain de Villeurbanne. She joined the contemporary collections department at the Centre Pompidou where she followed the preparation of the exhibitions "elles@centrepompidou" in 2009 and "Gerhard Richter" in 2011. After the "Niki de Saint Phalle" retrospective at the Grand Palais in 2014, she co-organized the "Ceramix" exhibition at La maison rouge. She was responsible for artistic programming at La Monnaie de Paris and organized the exhibitions "Women House", "Grayson Perry" and "Kiki Smith"; as well as another one in Capalbio, in 2021, on Niki de Saint Phalle's Tarot Garden.  Her work aims to support and make visible the work of women artists.
