MAP Toulouse 2024

15th Photography Festival

Les Abattoirs
Esplanade Daniel Cordier Free entrance

For its 15th edition, the Abattoirs are delighted to welcome the MAP Festival of Photography(s) with Acédia, an exhibition by the artist Louise Denos, installed in the courtyards.

Photographer and video artist Louise Denos (1991) began her instinctive photographic practice as a self-taught artist before studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, from which she graduated in 2017. She focuses on details, materials and surfaces, bodies, identities and territories. She constructs her series by reflecting on her doubts and scattered dreams, photographing what intrigues and attracts her instinctively.

For her exhibition as part of the MAP Festival, the artist explores the theme of acedia, a state of sorrow and affliction linked to a lack of motivation, weariness and disenchantment. "Laziness has become a common thread running through my practice. For me, it is first and foremost a means of production, since the time freed from responsibilities and my remunerative work is the time I invest freely. So it is by looking at [... ]random elements that are both significant and insignificant, but which find no other link than a kind of everyday chance, that I have built up this collection of images. My mind wanders, gets lost, focuses on an element, gives it importance and then resumes its movement", Louise Denos.

Save the date
Meet the artist on Saturday 14 September at 1pm around her exhibition on the Abattoirs forecourt.

The MAP Photography Festival
Since its creation in 2008, the Festival de Photographie(s) MAP Toulouse has established itself as a benchmark event in the regional artistic landscape, and a not-to-be-missed event for photography in France.
This year's anniversary edition will feature a number of new and original collaborations to bring the Saint Cyprien district to life through a range of projects in outdoor public spaces and emblematic venues in the Pink City, all with a particular emphasis on making access to photographic culture free and open to all.
