Du désarroi au rêve (From disarray to dream), the short works of Tatiana Huezo
A proposal by Cinélatino as part of its OTRA MIRADA section | Tatiana Huezo
Cinélatino, 35th Rencontres de Toulouse
from 24 March to 2 April 2023
Tatiana Huezo's feature-length films carry her word loud and clear, they are lucid and poetic testimonies. Her work is completed by a series of short films marked by the same acuity and the same modesty, the same cinematographic art. They are a space of creative freedom: the director gives a voice to people who have been devastated by violence. Her delicacy allows her to get as close as possible to the distress and deep fears. Almost without touching it, she imparts her playfulness and humour. The camera enjoys dreaming.
Born in El Salvador in 1972 and living in Mexico, Tatiana Huezo graduated from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) and holds a Master's degree in Creative Documentary from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. After her first short films such as Arido (1992), Familia (2004) or Sueño (2005), she gained international recognition with her first feature documentary El lugar más pequeño (2011), which was shown in more than 50 festivals. After the short film Ausencias (2015), she directed Tempestad (2016), which had its world premiere at the Berlinale (Forum section) and won four Ariel Prizes - awarded by the Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas.
In recent years, in addition to teaching cinema in various international academic contexts, she has written the book El Viaje, rutas y caminos andados para llegar a otro planeta.
A programme co-produced with La Cinémathèque de Toulouse and in partnership with Les Cahiers du cinéma.
