Mezzanine Sud Prize

2018 Edition

The Mezzanine Sud prize awarded by Les Abattoirs, Musée - Frac Occitanie Toulouse has been accompanying and promoting artists in the field of contemporary art since 2014. It rewards three young artists from Occitania with an exhibition "Mezzanine Sud" organized annually by the Abattoirs on their site in Toulouse.

This year, the three winners are Agathe Pitié, Marie-Luce Nadal and Mazaccio & Drowilal.

Agathe Pitié

Agathe Pitié (1986) uses the virtuosity of a precise and detailed drawing, or the medieval technique of illumination, to revisit historical myths and legends as well as those of the contemporary era. Her "narrative drawings" conjure up esoteric or religious figures that are subtly mixed with those of pop culture, manga, counter-culture, or even current events. She graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris and lives between Castres and Paris. She has recently exhibited at Crac La Traverse, the Musée départemental d'art contemporain de Rochechouart, the MIAC in Sète and the Musée d'art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Etienne.

Marie-Luce Nadal

Through devices of objects, photos and videos, Marie-Luce Nadal (1984) tries to capture the elusive. Between art and science, she recreates clouds, lightning, etc., works on the infinitely small to the disproportionately large, to present a humanity that struggles with the elements that exceed it. Marie-Luce Nadal lives between Perpignan and Paris, and has recently exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), at the 7th Moscow Biennial, at Labanque in Béthune and participated in the last edition of AFIAC.

Mazaccio & Drowilal

Mazaccio & Drowilal, a duo composed of Elise Mazac (1988) and Robert Drowilal (1986), carry out works based on the principle of collage, declined in photographs, installations or books. They deconstruct in a caustic way the representations that shape our contemporary imaginary. As such, they divert digital cultures and iconographies linked to the Internet and question with a corrosive humor our relationship to the image. Their works are present in several public collections (les Abattoirs, Musée Nicéphore Niepce, etc.).
